Epicâ??s hunt for new talent enters final phase

A $100,000 prize pot has been awarded to a group of aspiring game developers as Epic Games’ hunt for raw talent approaches its finale.

The Intel Make Something Unreal Contest provides young game designers with the chance to win a commercial Unreal Engine 3 licence along with $50,000 for designing an Unreal Tournament 3 mod.

The judging process is intense, with developers having to face four preliminary phases before winning their seat in the grand final.

The judging panel have now announced those grand finalists, awarding as much as $10,000 each for getting this far.

“Phase four of the $1 Million Intel Make Something Unreal Contest is like graduation of sorts,” said Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games.

“It’s the culmination of long-term game development efforts resulting in outstanding mods we’ve seen evolve from phase to phase.

“Mod authors have built up their creations, sought feedback from their peers in the Unreal community, received support through previous phase winnings, and now we’re down to where the best and the brightest teams really shine.”
