Ex-DICE dev and former Paradox mobile VP create ‘unpublisher’ for indie games

Former Battlefield producer co-founds new indie firm

A former member of the Battlefield team has joined forces with a colleague at Paradox to launch an indie games start-up, Raw Fury Games.

Gordon Van Dyke was previously a producer on the Battlefield series, working on the Bad Company games and Battlefield 2142, who left to join Paradox Interactive. He and former VP of mobile at Paradox Interactive Jonas Antonsson have now teamed up to found the new company, GameSpot reports.

In a blog post on the firm’s website, Raw Fury declares itself an ‘unpublisher’, promising to focus on the developers as they help bring their games to market.

“We might just as well call it an UnPublisher, because of how badly the publishing term – or what it traditionally stands for – fits with what we’re doing,” the duo wrote.

“We’re all former developers. We used to run studios, design games, produce them and ship them. Now it’s our time to help fellow developers to achieve their best work and get it out there. Into the hands of people that truly appreciate what they’ve striven to create.”

“So Raw Fury is UnPublishing – in the sense of trying to dismantle how publishing traditionally works, in favour of actually being there for the developers. They run the show. They are front and center. We’re a support unit. We are fans and cheerleaders.”

The outfit started when Van Dyke and Antonsson helped friends release their game. Raw Fury already has two games lined up: point-and-click adventure Kathy Rain and minimalist RPG Kingdom (pictured above).
