Sales for paid titles also rise on back of special deal

Free Apple promo sparks 6m downloads of Infinity Blade II

Epic’s Infinity Blade II was downloaded 5.7m times as part of Apple’s free-app promo during the App Store’s anniversary celebration.

AllThingsDreports the figure was accumulated over a week, with 1.7m of the downloads taking place on the first day alone. The game has now been downloaded nearly 50m times since it launched in December 2011.

Epic also saw a 2.5 per cent week-over-week rise in sales for the original Infinity Blade, and sales for the Infinity Blade: Awakening e-book went up 70 per cent – despite neither being discounted or directly involved in the promotion.

Infinity Blade: Dungeons was to be the next in line for the franchise, but was recently cancelled due to the closing of the game’s developer Impossible Studios.
