Games Done Quick raises over $220,000 for Hurricane Harvey relief

The devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Harvey has been awful and our thoughts are with everyone affected. But from bad things can come stories of human kindness and this weekend, gaming got involved.

As reported on Thursday by our sister site, esports-Pro, GamesDoneQuick set up an impromptu livestream to raise money for those affected by the hurricane in Texas. GamesDoneQuick normally runs two streams a year for a full 24 hours at a time where players speedrun through games for donations.

The Harvey Relief Done Quick stream quickly garnered support and by the end of the stream on Sunday, they had raised over $225,000 for the Houston Food Bank.

Hurrican Harvey hit the state of Texas, USA, last week. According to figures published by the BBC, at least 47 people have died and over 43,000 are currently being housed in shelters. With the estimated cost of the damage running into the hundreds of billions of dollars, every donation will help.
