New record set as next year’s Game Developers Conference is dated

GDC 2016 attendance passes 27,000

UBM Game Network, the company behind GDC, has announced that this year’s conference saw a record number of attendees, with more than 27,000 games industry professionals heading to San Francisco last week.

Develop was, of course, among them and you can check out all the news right here.

There was also over 550 companies exhibiting their latest tech at the GDC Expo, including Epic Games, Unity, Crytek, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Sony, Oculus, and more.

This year marked the 30th edition of the Game Developers Conference, as well as the debut of VRDC – an event that proved to be so popular, the locations of talks had to be changed at the last minute to accommodate as many people as possible.

As such, VRDC will return when GDC 2017 takes place in the slightly earlier slot of Monday, February 27th to Friday, March 3rd. UBM is expected to open a call for speakers over the summer.

“This year’s GDC, paired with the inaugural VRDC, allows us to look both backwards at the legacy and lessons of previous years, and forward to the future of games and VR experiences,” said general manager Meggan Scavio.

“Even in its 30th edition, GDC continues to evolve and grow to encompass all of the key lessons, advancements and artistic strides that the industry makes. Once again, the staff, volunteers, speakers, students and attendees have made GDC 2016 an amazing, fun and safe show all around.”
