Former developers launch new studio Vostok Games

GSC shuts down as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 cancelled

The Ukranian dev team behind the sci-fi FPS RPG S.T.AL.K.E.R. games has shut its doors for good.

Unfortunately for fans of GSC’s Chernobly-based take on Roadside Picnic and Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker, this means the latest game in the series, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has been cancelled.

Not all the news is bad though, and the developers have opened a new studio, Vostok Games, and have begun work on a free to play MMO FPS set in the iconic ‘Zone’ of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.

The studio, backed by Vostok Ventures Ltd, did not manage to secure the rights to the frozen S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, and instead decided to move forward with its new project, with the working title of Survarium.

"The concept of Survarium is a next evolution step for the idea of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. we’ve been working on for the last ten years," said project lead Ruslan Didenko.

"Survarium will go way further forcing mankind to fight for survival not only within the closed area of Chernobyl zone, but also far beyond."
