Halo, Destiny composer wins lawsuit against Bungie

Destiny composer and ex-Bungie employee Marty O’Donnell has come out on top in his lawsuit against his former company.

O’Donnell initially won the suit over a year ago, but a new report from Venture Beat reveals Bungie’s appeals caused a final ruling to be delayed until just last week. Now, the developer known for creating the Halo series will be forced to pay up for its mishandling of the situation – including termination without cause” and withholding benefits.

According to the terms, Bungie must provide an initial payout of $142,500 that O’Donnell is owed as part of a profit-sharing program. The composer gets to maintain hold of a considerable” amount of company stock as well.

In turn, O’Donnell needs permission from Bungie to publish any music from Destiny as his own. The composer announced earlier this year that he’s forming new studio Highwire Games with a group of other industry vets.
