THQ president Jason Rubin has contributed over $1,000 of his own money to the company’s Humble Bundle fundraising drive.
The bundle launched earlier today and is already fast approaching $2 million raised from a packed deal offering seven games for as little as a dollar.
THQ is in technical default and in dire need of cash.
The decision to launch a package deal on the Humble Bundle platform has taken the industry by suprise and stirred up a fair ammount of controversy.
Critics say this proves the Humble Bundle has abandoned its roots, having begun as a DRM-free platform for indie developers offering games for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
The current THQ offering is Windows and Steam exclusive, which means the normally pay-what-you-want formula has a minimum donation of a dollar to cover the expense of Steam keys.
For others though, this is a chance to help out a company fallen on hard times, and Rubin is not alone in his show of support for the beleaguered publisher.
Turtle Rock Studios, currently working on an unnamed project for THQ, has also pledged over $1,000.
Developer forum GameDev.net has also thrown in $251.
A portion of the proceeds determined by individual contributors will go to benefit the Child’s Play and American Red Cross charities.
