John Romero is to marry girlfriend and fellow games developer Brenda Brathwaite, the couple have announced.
The two high profile industry figures have worked in the games business since the 1980s – Romero most notably at Doom studio id Software.
In 2010 they worked together on the Facebook game Ravenwood Fair, with Romero as lead designer and Brathwaite as creative director.
Braithwaite confirmed the engagement in a message to her followers on Twitter, writing: “I said yes”.
She added that her 11 year-old daughter “asked in all seriousness if we could have a creeper cake for the wedding” – referring to cult green creature that lurks in Minecraft.
