Siobhan Reddy, Rami Ismail and Barry Meade to speak at event

Keynote speakers announced for GCAP 2014

The Game Developers Association of Australia has today confirmed the international keynote guests for this year’s Game Conenct Asia Pacific.

They are Siobhan Reddy (Media Molecule), Rami Ismail (Vlambeer) and Barry Meade (Fireproof Studios).

Last year, GCAP turned away from keynote addresses in favour of extolling generations of local developers. It carries the theme of ‘Stories’, and sought to describe the path of Australian game development, hosting local talent from various generations of development.

‘Shakespeare Wrote Hits’ is the theme of GCAP 2014, and looks set to ignite debate around the time-hallowed tradition of game developers about the legitimacy of popular culture, while at the same time helping developers do precisely what anyone working in a nascent (if it can so be called) medium must in order to ‘claim legitimacy’: create great works.

Siobhan Reddy is best known for her work on LittleBigPlanet, and as the fearless Studio Director at Media Molecule. And as one of the many people Australia loves to point to when we talk about how incredibly talented Australians are, even those who are a significant distance from our humble shores.

Rami Ismail comes to the lineup from Dutch-based indie studio Vlambeer, known for Super Crate Box, Ridiculous Fishing and LUFTRAUSER, and is the team’s Business and Development Guy.

Barry Meade is a Triple-A-gone-indie developer who’s illustrious credits include working on Magic Carpet and Syndicate at Bullfrog in the 90s, BLACK and the Burnout series at Criterion in the 00s, and who is now working with a small team at Fireproof Studios.

The lineup is a great mixture of contemporary and experimental, blending significant expertise with modern breakouts and huge project with the smallest of the small.

A callout for speakers remains open for GCAP 2014, and registration has just opened. Look forward to many more announcements regarding GCAP 2014 as further speakers are announced.
