The Castlevania project was given an extra measure of prominence when famed game designer Hideo Kojima was asked to assist.
But the Metal Gear Solid creator didn’t ambush development duties at Spanish studio MercurySteam, according to the game’s product manager.
Dave Cox said Kojima offered to work on key areas of the project, and even saw an overhaul of the game’s protagonist. Yet MercurySteam had still been trusted with the bulk of work.
“Kojima stated that we needed to create a more rounded character from which the story can emerge and for the player to empathise with,” Cox said.
“But, and this is to his credit, Kojima has also trusted our vision and left us to it.
“He has always liked what we were doing, how we intended to do it, and our methods. It has been a brilliant relationship – and who would turn down advice from such a respected guy?”
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is set for release from October 5.
