PlayStation says redundancies are part of "regular reviews", trio of studios undergoing "focused restructure"

Layoffs at Evolution Studios, Guerrilla Cambridge and SCE London Studio

Three UK studios owned by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have been hit by layoffs today.

There has been no word on how many staff are affected, but redundancies at Evolution Studios, SCE London Studio and Guerrilla Cambridge have been confirmed to VideoGamer.com.

Sony’s London studio showed off its virtual reality tech demo The Deep at the unveiling of Project Morpheus during GDC last week. Meanwhile, Evolution’s primary project is elusive PS4 racer Driveclub – a title that was originally due to be in the launch line-up for the next-gen console, but has since been taken ‘back to the drawing board’ – while Guerrilla Cambridge’s last title was September’s Killzone Mercenary for Vita.

PlayStation has stated that this is part of an ongoing review into its development resources – perhaps referring to the layoffs at Sony Santa Monica last month.

"Regular reviews throughout SCE Worldwide Studios, ensuring that the resources that we have in such a competitive business can create and produce high quality, innovative and commercially viable projects," a Sony spokesperson told the site.

"As part of this process, we have reviewed and assessed all current projects and have decided to make some changes to some of our European studios. As a result of this, there will be a focused restructure within London Studio, Guerilla Cambridge Studio and Evolution Studio to ensure that the SCE WWS is in the best position to achieve their goals going forward.

"Our first party development studios are key to our creative strategy and we are very excited about the future projects being worked on."
