Mominis contest offers $15,000 prize pool and wide-ranging distribution offer

Make your mobile game global in new app contest

Mobile game developers of all skill levels are being offered the chance to build a global mega-seller in a new development contest.

The GameCast 2011 challenge has a prize pool of $15,000 for its app competition, with $10,000 in cash the top prize.

The competition is running now. More details can be found here.

Successful entrants could make much more, however, with a global distribution deal on offer for developers who build content through Mominis’ own content creation system.

MoMinis Studio is a RAD (rapid application development) tool that addresses fragmentation problems.

Games developed using the platform can instantly operate on hundreds of devices across multiple platforms such as Android, Blackberry, Symbian and J2ME. Windows Mobile 7 and iOS support is on the way.

It is completely free to use. Game revenues are split 70/30 with developers taking the major share, after smartphone markets take their own cut.

But the 70/30 split includes Mominis’ push of the game to numerous distributors.

Eyal Rabinovich, Mominis’ vice president of community and content, revealed to Develop a fleet of mobile distributors across the world are on board too.

“We are working in Japan, the US, Eastern and Western Europe,” Rabinovich said.

“Among our leading partners are: Verizon, Vodafone, NTT DoCoMo, Turkcell, Orange, TIM, MCI and many more.”

Developers are free to drop out of the distribution deal and instead keep 90 per cent instead of 70. All developers keep their IP.

The contest will consist of a rough draft and a final draft submission stage.

Entrants should explain the concept of their game or show it in action in a video and submit it by July 10th.

All final drafts must be submitted in .mom files (MoMinis original game files) by August 25th.

Finalists will be announced on August 25th and the winning games will be announced on September 1st.

Prizes are as follows:

• One first place prize winner will receive $10,000 USD and a promotional deal with GetJar
• One second place prize winner will receive $3,000
• One third place prize winner will receive $2,000

Entrants can register here and download the MoMinis Studio.
