Rebirth as simply ‘SNK’ follows recent launch of Entertainment division

Metal Slug and King of Fighters dev SNK Playmore rebrands

SNK Playmore, the games firm behind the Neo Geo console and franchises such as Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown, will now be known as just ‘SNK’.

The developer and publisher has launched a new tagline – ‘The future is now’ – to go along with its rebrand, seemingly moving away from its origins in the 1980s and ‘90s. (Addition: As spotted by diligent Twitter user Ethan Fox, the slogan is actually a return to SNK’s mid-1990s tagline.)

Despite this, the outlet will continue to work with its existing catalogue of IP, having recently opened a new Entertainment arm to bring back “dormant” franchises.

The company’s multiple moves to build momentum follow its buyout in 2015 by Ledo Millenium, a group of Chinese investors.

SNK originally gained the Playmore suffix in 2003, after its merger with the new firm from original SNK founder Eikichi Kawasaki.
