Moshi Monsters' Poppet starts in new publication that teaches young girls about the role for women in the technology industry

Mind Candy launches coding magazine for girls

It’s becoming a thankfully common trend for developers to target kids at a young age in order to teach them more about coding, but rarely is it focused specifically on girls.

And yet that’s exactly the target audience for Mind Candy’s Poppet magazine, a new publication dedicated to teaching young girls more about the potential for a career in the technology industry.

The magazine stars Poppet – a familiar face to Moshi Monsters fans – as the editor and explores the roles open to women, including developers, product managers and coders. There will be interviews with various women employed by Mind Candy and activities that teach readers more about the puzzle-like nature of coding.

"Coding is very important," said Mind Candy’s executive creative producer Jocelyn Stevenson. "Most people think it’s a big mystery, whereas in fact it’s just a series of puzzles so it’s almost like a game. Coding is very accessible to everyone, girls as well as boys."

The launch has been inspired by Code.org’s Year of Code initiative to teach more children about the possibilities of a career in programming.

The first issue is available on Thursday, March 27th. You can find out more about the magazine in the video below.
