Processor runs Unreal Engine 4 Elemental demo

Nvidia’s Tegra X1 mobile chip has a teraflop of power

Nvidia has unveiled a new mobile processor that has more than a teraflop of processing power.

The Tegra X1 is powered by a 256-core Maxwell GPU and 8 CPU cores. Unreal Engine 4, DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.5 CUDA, OpenGL ES 3.1 and the Android Extension Pack will all be available to developers to use.

The processor is able to power Epic’s intensive Elemental demo for Unreal Engine 4, previously showcased on PC and PS4. According to Nvidia, it took a developer one week to adapt the Elemental demo for to the chip.

The processor is expected to debut during the first half of the year.

"We built Elemental to push high-end PC and console features, and also to show early capabilities of Unreal Engine 4,” said Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney.

“As seen with today’s demonstration of Elemental on Tegra X1, Nvidia continues to extend what developers can create with striking results. With its Maxwell architecture, Tegra X1 is equipped to run rich, beautiful experiences not previously seen on mobile devices.”
