Monument Valley has passed the one million downloads mark.
The puzzle title from London-based Ustwo Games was originally released for iPad last year, but later came to iPhone and Android platforms. A third of all Android downloads for the game are via the Amazon app store, according to TechCrunch.
Players guide a silent princess through levels based on optical illusions, manipulating both the architecture and perspective of levels to create new paths.
Monument Valley received several nominations in the 2014 Develop Awards, with freelance sound designer Stafford Bawler picking up the accolade for Creative Contribution: Audio for his work on the game.
You can find out more about Bawler and his work on Monument Valley at Develop’s An Audience With… Audio Game-Changers next week. Email audiencewith@intentmedia.co.uk for your chance to get a seat at this select event.
Priced at £2.49/$3.99, the high sales of the game has enabled Ustwo to begin work on an expansion pack of new levels, due towards the end of the year. These will be integrated into the original game rather than sold as a separate title.
And, despite the success, Ustwo wants to avoid rushing out a sequel, instead focusing on coming up with enough content and new ideas to justify a new release.
"We won’t be doing a Monument Valley 2 unless it’s actually Monument Valley 2 and not Monument Valley 1.5," said producer Dan Gray.
