Many gamers are probably still struggling to decide what game they should be playing, following the hectic day of releases that included Assassin’s Creed Origins, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and Super Mario Odyssey on the same day. Well, Steam users might have more difficulty in choosing.
According to data analyst Daniel Ahmad, 6000 games have been released on Steam in 2017. That’s the biggest ever number for the platform and almost as much as the combined decade of releases between 2005 and 2015.

You would think that would indicate that the platform is incredibly saturated, and Valve has made efforts to crack down on games that use asset flipping, which also makes a significant impact on the number of titles released. But the launch of Steam Direct, which replaced Steam Greenlight earlier this year, and the growth of Early Access has allowed the number of releases to increase exponentially.
There are, according to Steam’s information in 2015, over 125 million active accounts on the platform and over the last 48 hours it reached a peak concurrent user base of 13 million. So by numbers alone, it is still the biggest non-mobile gaming platform for gaming. However, according to Steam Spy, the number of releases and competition on the platform is beginning to affect sales.
