Sony’s next-generation console the PS4 could be revealed as early as May, the president of Sony Home Entertainment has hinted.
Speaking to Spanish website emol.com, when asked whether Sony would reveal its new model of the PlayStation in the next few months, Hiroshi Sakamoto said that it was still a bit secret but that the company was focused on E3.
He added that any announcement could happen during the event or even in May.
"That’s still a big secret, but our friends are preparing Sony PlayStation,” said Sakamoto, as translated by Google.
“I can only say that we are focused on the E3 gaming event, scheduled for June.’s Announcement may be in that minute or even earlier in May."
When asked for clarification on whether it would be a big announcement or something additional, he added: “"Probably the first, in that time we expect to deliver great news, but we must wait until May at least."
Previous rumours had suggested that Sony could show off pre-release hardware at a press conference on February 25th ahead of an E3 reveal.
This unveiling of the PS4 at the Destination PlayStation eve however appears unlikely, with a reveal much closer to E3 seeming more likely.
