Creative England initiative to find and fund more female developers will also invest £15,000 in most successful projects

Queen of Code campaign launches 15 crowdfunding appeals

A total of 15 appeals have been launched via Crowdfunder as part of Creative England’s Queen of Code campaign.

The initiative aims to encourage more women to enter games development, offering support and funding to the most promising candidates from across England.

The not-for-profit organisation has teamed up with Crowdfunder to help draw attention and consumer support for 15 female developers, each of which have now launched a crowdfunding campaign.

"England’s creative industries are some of the best in the world, and we work to nurture this exciting home grown talent," said Creative England’s head of games and digital Jaspal Sohal. "Our partnership with Crowdfunder relfects this with initiatives such as Queen of Code taking centre stage.

"A widely reported 49 per cent of gamers in the UK are women, but only 12 per cent of people making games are female. With this partnership we aim to put the spotlight on the creative talent of the female counterpart of the industry."

Creative England’s figures closely match Develop’s own research into the lack of women in development, which showed that 15 per cent of UK studio staff are female.
