Evolve conference launch for new tech, which promises to drastically reduce length of dev process

Rapid2D engine offers Windows 8 exclusive focus

A new games engine named Rapid2D is set for release next week, exclusively serving windows 8 app development.

Due for release on December 11th, the engine supports the creation of apps for PC, tablet and phone, and is built to emphasise high speed, accessibility, and streamlined distribution via the Windows 8 Marketplace.

The engine, set to be free to download and use, will also be supported by a number of extensions and custom upgrades.

"Rapid2D is the only game engine that is specifically designed for the production of Windows 8 Apps," read a statement to the press. "The engine uses the widely-used and well established language of C# for scripting. This is an extremely high performance Engine which allows users to produce high content games with limited programming experience."

Rapid2D will offer users physics, visual effects, sound, particle systems, collision control, animated sprites, and support for a number of other features.

The tech will be available to try at next week’s Evolve conference, where its creators will offer interested parties a guide to creating a complete game in just one hour.

The Evolve Conference takes place in London, UK, next Tuesday, December 11th.
