"We’ve decided to try to financially support some developers that are doing amazing things but might struggle with Steam Direct"

Raw Fury Games commits to fund to help indie devs pay Steam Direct costs

Indie publishing outfit Raw Fury Games have announced today that they’ll be trying to fund developers trying to afford the fees involved with getting their games onto Steam Direct when Steam moves to the fee-based model.

Raw Fury Games outlined their intent in a blog post on their site entitled "This Steam Direct thing, we’re going to help devs pay the submission fee". It’s not yet clear how much Steam will be looking to charge as their per-game fee, with Valve mentioning in a blogpost that they received suggestions as low as $100 and as high as $5000.

Regardless, Raw Fury are describing putting a fund together to help developers out with getting their games onto Steam, in a deal that won’t work like usual publishing terms.

"We’ve decided to try to financially support some developers that are doing amazing things but might struggle with Steam Direct if the fee ends up being on the expensive side like $1000 or above by paying the fee for them," reads the post. "We wouldn’t ask for any stake in games we support in this way, we’d just pay the fee upfront and give the dev team a high five. If the game is successful enough we’d ask for the fee to be paid back BUT ONLY BECAUSE we’d use those same funds to continue this effort for other devs and restart the dev cycle of life. So, to begin this initiative, we’ll curate and limit the number of games we’ll support and see how this plays out."
