US retailer previously announced it would publish Insomniac’s Song of the Deep

Ready At Dawn and Frozenbyte among first studios signed to new GameStop label

Games retailer GameStop has bolstered its publishing aspirations with the launch of a new label.

The company announced in January that it would publish Song of the Deep (pictured), the next game from Ratchet and Clank and Sunset Overdrive developer Insomniac.

Now, three extra studios have joined the roster: The Order: 1886 outlet Ready at Dawn, Trine creator Frozenbyte and Deadlight maker Tequila Works.

To account for the expanded roster, the digital and physical publishing programme has gained a formal title – GameTrust.

GameStop insisted that it would assist its devs with marketing and promotion, including dedicated shelf space in-store, but would remain separate from the creative process.

"Unlike a traditional video game publisher, GameTrust is not part of the creative process,” the retailer said (via Wired).

"Instead, it is focusing on discovering creative and fun games from innovative independent developers that can benefit from GameStop’s expertise and retail channels to support marketing and connecting their games with a broader global audience.”

Song of the Deep is due for release this summer, while GameStop has teased that further projects ‘will be announced soon’.
