Ready At Dawn Engine to integrate Maya

Ready At Dawn Studios will integrate Autodesk’s Maya software into its upcoming game engine, as part of the studio’s wider aim to become a serious rival to the likes of Epic and Emergent in the game engine sector.

The God of War PSP developer recently announced it was going to license out its own engine for Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP developers.

Ready At Dawn says that Maya integration will allow for editing and workflow enhancements in the areas of mesh/UI editing, lighting, character rigging, game entities and AI editing.

“We have seen first-hand with our internal teams how powerful this integration is and are excited that we should be able to provide developers with the ability to create and edit game content in one place,” said Ready At Dawn Studios president Didier Malenfant.

“The time for hard-to-learn, hard-to-use proprietary editing environments is over," he added.

"Thanks to Maya we hope to be able to offer an industry standard editing environment in which to perform game editing tasks, from modeling to level and game design.”

The firm also claimed that the Maya integration with the engine’s renderer should allow for editing tasks to be done in a WYSIWYG environment, and provide a real-time in-engine preview of game levels and art.

Autodesk’s game VP Marc Stevens said that the proposed integration deal would help developers work on a single workflow, “with no need for back and forth exporting between separate applications.”
