Newly formed Korean dev nabs rights to Crytek's engine for online title

Reloaded Studios to use CryEngine 2 for first MMO

Korean game development company Reloaded Studios, which was founded earlier this year, has signed a licensing agreement with Crytek to use its CryEngine 2 middleware for the development of a brand new action strategy MMORPG.

CryEngine 2 has been built for Crytek’s latest game, Crysis (pictured) – but the studio began licensing the technology out to other studios at GDC earlier this year. It’s signed up a number of licensees since, including Entropia, XLGames and Paleo

“Our technology team carefully reviewed and analyzed both the features and limitations of all of the major game engines and middleware solutions which are currently available to license, before making our choice,” commented Ki-Yong Cho, CEO of Reloaded Studios.

“No other engine came close to offering the dynamic features, developer friendly tools, or provided anything near the visual quality of the CryEngine 2. We felt it was extremely important when our game is eventually released that it will still be able to stand apart from all other titles, either currently existing or presently in development, in what is now already a very competitive market. We felt only the CryEngine 2 could support the dynamic content and massive landscapes we intend to build, let alone do justice to the unique art style we plan on bringing to our MMO. Licensing the CryEngine 2 was an obvious and unanimous choice.”

Faruk Yerli, managing director of Crytek, added: “We are really looking forward to working together with Reloaded Studios on this exciting new game development. The experienced team that Reloaded Studios has brought together will ensure they have the talent and resources to create a blockbuster hit with this title. When we saw the stunning concept visuals and exciting game design ideas they shared with us we immediately knew that what they have planned will be a true next-generation MMORPG, and become the kind of game which will set the visual and game play standards against which future MMO‘s will be judged.”
