'I never thought that Lucas would actually shut down. I feel badly for all the talented people there'

Schafer shocked as Disney disbands LucasArts team

Famed game designer Tim Schafer has said he was shocked by the news that Disney have closed LucasArts.

Schafer spent ten years at the studio, developing titles such as Grim Fandango, Monkey Island and Full Throttle during his time there.

But yesterday new owners Disney made the decision to disband the studio despite having been a stalwart in the industry for 30 years.

Schafer told Kotaku he was sad to see a studio with so much history closed down, and did not think the day would come when it would actually happen.

“Even though part of me felt this was coming, I’m still, somehow, shocked,” said Schafer

“I never thought that Lucas would actually shut down. I feel badly for all the talented people there. LucasArts was my first job in the industry. And sad to see all that history go away. And all that concept art. I’m going to be dumpster diving behind their offices for a while to see if I can find any old Full Throttle concept art.”

Another famous LucasArts developer, Ron Gilbert, has also expressed his sadness over the studio’s closure, stating he would not be who he is today without the company.
