German tool provider Spinor has ported its Shark 3D engine to the Wii.
The engine’s new Wii credentials are being stretched by local firm Phenomedia Publishing, which is working on a title called Moorhun Tales – the ‘C++ gameplay elements’ to which will be included in the engine package, which can be used in future projects. A previous iteration of the toolset was used by Funcom for Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.
The middleware fully supports live editing, meaning that developers can change all aspects of the game – from geometry to textures, scripts and shaders – and see the changes live on the Wii console. Spinor has also added the ability for meshes, textures and sounds to be compressed offline especially for the Wii version, so that games have minimal memory footprints.
