Video game solicitors urges Government to offer support in upcoming Budget

Sheridans calls for industry tax credits

Sheridans Solicitors has written a letter to secretary of state Andy Burnham MP, urging the Government to assist the UK development community in its upcoming Budget.

The letter warns that the UK development community could ‘contract by 16.5 per cent over five years resulting in the loss of more than £180million in external investment and nearly 1700 jobs.’

The firm states that 85 per cent of UK developers consider tax breaks ‘necessary’ in order to compete with rival countries including Canada.

‘The UK possesses a world-class talent pool and impressive track record but is increasingly being required to compete on an uneven playing field,’ reads the letter.

‘The April Budget therefore provides the Government with an opportunity to assist the UK to fulfil its potential to become the global leader in games development.’

‘We would accordingly urge you to consider the case for tax credits for the UK games industry’
