New firm Viaan Studios aims to deliver free-to-play games for India, premium for the rest of the world

Shilpa Shetty forms new games studio

Bollywood film start Shilpa Shetty Kundra and her husband Raj Kundra have opened a new games developer.

The venture is the latest in a series of enterprises formed by the couple, and stems from their mobile handset manufacturer Viaan Industries, Pocket Gamer reports. The new developer is called Viaan Studios.

The team will begin by focusing on mobile games for the growing Indian market before setting its sights on the rest of the world, eventually hoping to target Europe and Asia with console games.

“We plan to target the 150 million mobile gamers in India with high-end, free-to-play games – and we’ll also offer premium titles to the wider international game market," said Raj Kundra.

"We plan to tap into the global game market by releasing new mobile games every quarter, entering partnerships in India, and developing triple-A console games for the core market in the next two years.”

Viaan Studios first mobile releases will be zombie strategy title Survival Block and A Shot To Fame, a celebrity title similar to Glu’s portfolio based on Shilpa Shetty.

Three more games are in development for PC and console.
