Sibblingz launches multi-device social game engine

California tech firm Sibblingz has launched what it is pitching as the first specific multi-device social game engine. The platform promises to let consumers continue to play the same social title as they move between the likes of iPhone, Android, web and Facebook.

Designed to let developers migrate to creating social games with minimum hassle, the Sibblingz tech already boasts launch partners such social specialist CrowdStar, and development studio SiXiTS. In the build up to today’s official launch, the tool has already been used for CrowdStar’s Happy Island, which currently has 12 million monthly average users.

“Gameplay on the smart phone and tablet is different from social game play on the PC like Facebook. iDevice gamers want more skill-based mechanics with console-like gaming feel,” explained Peter Relan, executive chairman of CrowdStar.

“By using the Sibblingz engine we can make a game optimised for the iPad that is connected to the same back-end data as the Facebook version. Sibblingz gives us multi-device reach with the flexibility to make a game experience unique to that device."

The Sibblingz platform also purports to enable gamers to save huge quantities in game development costs, as well as decrease time to marketlaunching cross-platfor, and reach more diverse audiences.

“A solution like Sibblingz can have a dramatic impact on brands and developers looking to build a game that has scale from a cross-platform perspective,” said Michael Cai, vice president of Video Games at the research firm, Interpret. “Right now it’s quite expensive to build a game on multiple platforms, and it’s a big hurdle for someone looking to create the next social game phenomena across devices.”
