Dave Ranyard, Sony London’s former studio head, has formed his own independent studio, Dream Reality Interactive, which will be focused on virtual reality.
Ranyard has been working at Sony for the past 17 years and has plenty of experience with bringing games into the real world, with work on both Singstar and Wonderbook: Book of Spells. Most recently, Ranyard oversaw the development of anthology title VR Worlds, which was designed to showcase the best possibilities of Sony’s own PlayStation VR headset.
"With the availability of a range of VR headsets the question is no longer if virtual reality will be successful, it is when and most importantly, how?" said Raynard in a statement.
"None of us really knows the answer but after a fantastic 17 years at Sony, now feels like the right time to explore the possibilities. Going independent allows me to work across all platforms and that’s very liberating."
Going with Ranyard to the new outfit are former Sony London colleagues Richard Bates, Albert Bentall, John Foster and Artemis Tsouflidou, who are all recognised as key components to the development of VR worlds.
