Cosmos Rings will send users notifications based on step counts and utilise ‘Time Upstream System’

Square Enix is developing the first RPG exclusively for the Apple Watch

Final Fantasy outlet Square Enix is working on what it claims is the very first RPG exclusively made for the Apple Watch.

Although details are scarce, Siliconera reports that Cosmos Rings will feature a mechanic known as the ‘Time Upstream System’ that will make use of the tech timepiece’s ‘Digital Crown’ (that’s the twiddly knob at the side, which is also a push button).

The title will also track the wearer’s steps and send them notifications based on how far they’ve walked, which will tie in to the gameplay.

Among those working on the game is producer Takehiro Ando, who worked on the Chaos Rings series, and co-producer Shun Kanbe.

Creating the distinctive key art, which is said to be ‘nostalgic’ and utilise a dot-print aesthetic, is Yusuke Naora, who previously headed up art on Final Fantasies including beloved past entries VII, VIII and X, plus the upcoming XV.
