CEO warns of â??massive consequencesâ?? after Elemental fails to make impact

Stardock sheds staff after â??disastrous salesâ??

US developer Stardock has been forced to make studio redundancies after the unsuccessful launch of its strategy title Elemental.

The Michigan-based developer has made downward revisions to its revenue projections following Elemental’s launch last month.

“There will be massive consequences for Stardock’s game studio,” said company CEO Brad Wardell.

Wardell went on to blame himself, and his team, for the “level of disconnect/poor judgment on our part”.

He said: “If the game had come out in February, it would still have been a disastrous launch because lack of time wasn’t the issue. It was blindness, sheer blindness. We felt the game was finished. Blindness.”

Wardell made his comments on Elemental’s public forum after a Shacknews article broke the news of redundancies.

“Elemental’s revenue was anticipated to provide the revenue both for our main games team’s next project as well as a second team.

“Unfortunately, that is unlikely to happen so we’ve had to start laying people off.”
