Student game development competiton entry Roto to get commercial mobile release

Roto is a simple game about big balls. That’s the official tag line for this upcoming mobile game, the basic premise of which is still being kept under wraps.

What started out as a Global Student Game Developer Competition 2014 entry developed over 24 hours by a group of DSK Supinfogame students, has been worked-on ever since for commercial release on Android and iOS (it was initially a browser game).

Roto received an honourable mention at the competition, along with a cash prize of $1,000. The game has also been nominated for the Excellence in Browser Gaming and Excellence in Mobile Gaming awards at the upcoming Indian Creative Technology Awards 2014.

It’s a very simple game, requiring no time to master. It is not biased towards any specific target audience or age. We believe in making games accessible to everyone and this is made possible with simple mechanics, an easy control scheme, minimal art, and tons of free gameplay,” says developer Chirag Chopra.

Sound design for Roto is being handled by Ubisoft Reflections’ Ash Read, who has also done work on upcoming Ubisoft titles Watch Dogs and The Crew.

Roto is scheduled for release in May for Android, and iOS shortly after. More details about the game will be revealed via the game’sFacebook pagein the lead up to release.
