IKinema has announced that its RunTime middleware is currently being used by Supermassive Games.
The Guildford-based developer is working on two PlayStation VR launch titles – Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, a spin-off of its acclaimed PS4 horror title, and Tumble VR.
The licensing agreement enables Supermassive to use RunTime in its titles. The middleware specialises in procedural animation that ensures characters – whether humanoid or multi-limbed, larger creatures – respond to terrain naturally as they move around the game world.
“We are delighted to partner with IKinema,” said Supermassive’s director of design Steve Goss. “Their exceptional software helps realise the very high fidelity digital actors we use in our games.
“These believable humans have complex behaviours and are built from many intertwined data types and real-time systems. Working with IKinema allows us to focus on what we actually want our characters to do on-screen and solves some complex issues for us.”
