Marvel is the latest hot licence that Telltale Games has managed to get its hands on, with newly-announced plans to work with the Avengers and X-Men creator.
Teased via little more than two sentences and a splash image, the partnership between Marvel Entertainment and Telltale Games will be centred around a new game series due in 2017.
“We’re excited to reveal an all-new partnership with the incredible team at Marvel Entertainment,” the studio wrote on its website. “We’ll be teaming up on the development of an upcoming Telltale game series set to premier in 2017.”
Let the speculation commence!
While there’s no word on which Marvel properties this will involve, it’s a safe bet it will be tied to – if not based directly on – The Avengers. With plenty of films still due from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it could tie in directly with the Phase 3 movies, or tell a parallel story.
More intriguing is whether the new Marvel game will adopt Telltale’s new ‘Super Show’ format; a transmedia project across TV and games that the studio has teased. Given Marvel’s wealth of tie-in TV shows such as Agents of Shield and Agent Carter, it’s not impossible that Telltale’s property could tie in with a similar series.
