The latest installment in Develop’s special Unity Focus series has revealed a 240 per cent increase in the engine’s user base in 2009.
In the piece, which looks over the launch of versions 2.5 and 2.6 of the Unity engine, the decision to make the base edition of the tech free, and the move to iPhone, the firm’s marketing manager Thomas Grove confirms the impressive statistic.
"We also released Unity 2.6 and announced that the base version of Unity would, from this point forth, be free," said Grove of the company’s progress in 2009. "We had a pretty good feeling that it would be big news, but we really had no idea just how huge. The move definitely paid off – we’ve grown our user base by more than 240 per cent and we are still getting more than 600 new users a day."
