VR support added to Granite SDK, promising 4K resolution at 90 fps

VIDEO: Graphine brings texture streaming to virtual reality

Graphics middleware firm Graphine has optimised its Granite texture streaming software to support virtual reality devices.

The company says Granite can help developers create a highly-detailed VR experience that still runs at 90 frames per second at a 4K resolution. The middleware can also stream high-quality textures to 3D scans and hand painted objects or characters, not unlike those used by VFX studios.

Graphine is showcasing this with a new VR tech demo at its stand – Booth No.101 – at this week’s GDC Expo. The demo (pictured) was created by virtual reality specialist Nurulize, and demonstrates the amont of HDR texture content Granite can handle.

Granite is available as a standalone SDK, but can also be found as plug-ins for Unreal Engine and Unity.
