Ontario conference to bring together industry's emerging entrepreneurs

Vortex dev competition calls for undiscovered talent

The organisers of the Vortex Videogame Conference have made a call for aspiring games makers to enter the development competition element of the Ontario event.

Now in its sixth year, Vortex, which also serves as a networking event, brings together a number of speakers and panelists and strives to offer an opportunity for emerging games industry entrepreneurs.

Conceived to foster opportunities for emerging studios and individuals hoping to showcase their work locally, nationally, and globally, the Canadian competition is hosted by the federally incorporated charity McLuhan Festival of the Future, and is taking place this year at the new Toronto International Film Festival Bell Lightbox venue in Toronto.

Vortex has also finalised a partnership with Canadian game development forum DIG London, which connects developers, publishers, tech outfits, and service providers. To clarify, the organisation’s name refers to London, Ontario; not the UK’s capital city.

“We are delighted to partner with DIG as it provides us with the opportunity to increase the exposure of emerging entrepreneurs to the videogame industry throughout Ontario," said Vortex MD Sari Ruda.

The Vortex competition takes place from from October 2010 to February 2011. The main conference is to take place in Toronto on three separate days: October 27th 2010, november 9th 2010, and February 9th 2011. The London, Ontario arm of the conference occurs on November 18th 2010.

Those interested in the competition can learn more at the event’s official website.
