Zynga.com has boasts over 2.8 million monthly active users a mere two months after moving out of internal beta.
The social games company, long associated with Facebook, has launched its own gaming portal in which players can access their games without loggin in to the social networking site- though an account and updated permissions are still required for authentication.
According to a report by Inside Social Games, the portal launched with 1.7 million MAUs and 130k daily active users.
In seven days, MAUs had risen to 1.9 million while DAUs had jumped to 180k; increases of eleven and thirty-eight percent respectively.
Social games are expected to show strong growth after launch, but it is rare for the DAU/MAU ratio- an indication of retention rates- to rise so sharply.
Zynga’s COO John Schappert says the company has deliberately avoided driving users to its new social gaming portal through cross-promotions or advertising.
This makes the rapid growth all the more impressive.
The site makes use of its own side bar and live feed, giving gamers a way to keep tabs on their friends in-game without searching through Facebook updates.
Zynga is expected to begin advertising for the site later in the quarter.
