More than a dozen studios have been approved for video games tax credits that will reduce the production costs of development.

The successful developers were announced by the BFI today during a special Video Games Day, revealing that 13 games have received interim certification and one has received final certification from the BFI's Certification Unit.

This unit has been evaluating games development projects with a cultural test since August, when legislation for the UK games tax breaks - finally approved earlier this year - was completed.

More than 30 applications for certification have been received so far this year. The successful games include:

  • Beyond Flesh and Blood (Pixelbomb)
  • Fractured Space (Endless Tiger)
  • Gingersnap (Elderberry Post)
  • MazeCraft (HyperLiger)
  • Potion Pop (Delinquent Interactive)
  • Shred It! (Extra Mile Studios)
  • SKARA - The Blade Remains (SKARA The Blade Remains)
  • SoccerManager.com (Soccer Manager)
  • Soul Axiom (Wales Interactive)
  • Wayward Tide (Chucklefish Games)
  • Spacepants (Boxface Games)

"Our vibrant gaming industry is going from strength to strength and is a vital contributor to the growth of the UK economy," said Creative Industries Minister Ed Vaizey.

"Through tax reliefs and the development of the country's digital infrastructure, we are building the foundations our creative industries need to continue to thrive on the global stage. It is encouraging to see that the companies already benefiting from the new tax relief represent a mix of organisations from across the UK, furthering the creation of jobs and skills development in the industry."
