Autodesk has lined up a number of notable computer graphics masterminds to speak at the London leg of its 3December event, which takes place on December 4th.

3D graphics gurus head for London

The event takes place at London’s HAC at 3.30pm on Monday December 4th and and is free to attend.

It’s just one part of Autodesk’s seventh global 3December event, which celebrates the world of 3D computer graphics. The line up of other 3December events around the world can be found here.

Sony Pictures Imageworks’ animation supervisor T. Dan Kofstedt headlines this year’s London-based event with a talk on the making of Monster House. He supervised a team of over 60 character animators for the recently released film, which mixed performance-capture with key-frame animation. In his 22-year career in animation he’s also worked on the likes of The Polar Express, Tarzan, Mulan and Aladdin.

Other speakers include team members from animation houses Framestore, Double Negative, and Supernatural Studios. MPC will also discuss how it put together the recent ‘colour firework’-based Sony Bravia ad.

While the afternoon remit of the event is to talk about the overall world of 3D graphics and visuals, organiser Autodesk has teamed up with Escape Studios and bluegfx to host a series of workshops before the afternoon’s graphics talks.

The mini-courses cost just £30 each to attend and look at topics such as Autodesk’s MotionBuilder software or how the likes of Maya 8 integrates with games middleware.

The workshop line-up is as follows:

Autodesk Maya workshops hosted by Escape Studios:
11am – 12.30pm: Creating the Impossible: MEL scripting and Renderman for Maya
1pm – 2.30pm: Art to Engine – Games

Autodesk 3ds Max workshops hosted by bluegfx:
11am – 12.30pm: 3ds Max in a Visualisation Pipeline
1pm – 2.30pm: Rendering in 3ds Max for Composition in Autodesk Combustion

Autodesk MotionBuilder workshop hosted by bluegfx:
11am – 12.30pm: Re-targeting, Editing – the Motion Capture Pipeline with MotionBuilder
