Over 800 independents and start-ups have signed up to use Gamespy Technology’s special program for indies and start-ups looking to establish a reputation in professional game development.
“GameSpy Technology‘s goal is to make it easy to integrate online connectivity to games. The GameSpy Open initiative has made our services even more easily attainable to all developers,” said Todd Northcutt, vice president of GameSpy Technology.
“We’re proud to see GameSpy Technology’s tools embraced by so many teams. Developers who recognise the power of online features can now make their awesome games with less technical challenges between their vision and their execution.”
GameSpy Open has been conceived to lower the bar to entry for studios looking to harness the APIs of the GameSpy Technology tools, which add online functionality to titles on a range of platforms.
Accessible through a free self-service portal, GameSpy Open launched late in February this year, and offers access to the GameSpy tools already used by high profile indies including Halfbrick and Trendy Entertainment.
“GameSpy gave us exactly what we needed to bring cross-platform matchmaking to Fruit Ninja, and the tools were easy to integrate into our existing code base,” concluded Shainiel Deo, CEO of Halfbrick. “Now that matchmaking is rolling out, we’re looking forward to exploring several other ideas that GameSpy can help us achieve on global multi-platform scale.”
