Abertay students dominate Creative Scotland Awards

Teams formed of students from the University of Abertay have been named as the three nominees in the computer games category at the Creative Scotland Student Media Awards.

Part of the annual Creative Loop Student Media Festival, the nominated projects for Best use of interactive media/apps/computer games were Constructs, into the Sky and The Art Collector.

The nominated students are:

Constructs: Mustafa Cetiner, Andrew Golden, Karl Inglott, Jonathan Jones, Laura McSheffrey, Phil Morton, Elinor Townsend and Grzegorz Ziemba.

Into the Sky: Stephanie Bazeley, Andrew Bean, Grant Campbell, Jaime Cross, Adam Dart, Simon Doyle, Peter Edmond, Gary Robertson, Andy Tait and Judy Vernon.

The Art Collector: Alistair Low

“At Abertay University we really pride ourselves on producing graduates with the skills needed to work at the world’s leading computer games companies – and to start their own businesses,” said said computer arts programme tutor Lynn Parker.

“It’s a great recognition of the hard work of our students and lecturers to see nominations for major awards, and to receive every nomination for best interactive media, app or computer game at the Creative Scotland Student Media Awards shows that all that work is paying off.

“One of the major advantages of our teaching is that students from the art, audio and programming degrees work together, just as they would in a real company. Getting that interaction early is a crucial part of learning to work effectively as a team and to produce incredible creative results.”

The winners of the awards will be announced at the CCS in Glasgow tomorrow night.
