Virtual power-ups to monetise social game

Angry Birds turns free for Facebook

Finnish developer Rovio has launched a Facebook edition of the iPhone sensation Angry Birds.

The game incorporates the free-to-play business model and trades special items for Facebook Credits.

More social elements, such as universal leaderboards, have also been added to the game.

"This launch is just the beginning for Angry Birds on Facebook. We have great new features and gameplay lined up for the fans in the upcoming weeks,” said Rovio publishing exec Petri Järvilehto.

"Angry Birds on Facebook will offer a unique experience for our fans, and we’re really excited to finally be with the platform."
