Apple wants sales ban of eight Samsung phones

Apple is seeking to ban sales of eight Samsung phones following its landmark $1bn lawsuit victory against the mobile giant last week.

The world’s most valuable company is attempting to ban the sale of the Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy S2 AT&T, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S2 T-Mobile, Galaxy S2 Epic 4G, Galaxy S Showcase, Droid Charge and the Galaxy Prevail.

Latest generation sales of the device are not affected however.

As well as being penalised with a $1.05bn fine for infringing six of Apple’s patents, Reuters has reported shares in the company fell 7.5 per cent on Monday, resulting in a loss of $12bn in the firm’s value.

The latest move by Apple, if successful, could see a further de-valuation of the mobile giant.

Companies such as Google meanwhile have expressed fears that the ruling could limit access from consumers to Android devices in general.

"The court of appeals will review both infringement and the validity of the patent claims," read a statement from the web giant, as reported by the BBC.

"Most of these don’t relate to the core Android operating system, and several are being re-examined by the US Patent Office.

"The mobile industry is moving fast and all players – including newcomers – are building upon ideas that have been around for decades. We continue to work with our partners to give consumers innovative and affordable products, and we don’t want anything to limit that."

Samsung has announced its intention to appeal the US court’s ruling.
