Abertay University has opened applications for its world-renowned Dare To Be Digital competition.

Open to university students around the world, the contest challenges teams to create and develop new games with the help of guidance from industry experts and mentors. They will also have the chance to meet publishers and investors to learn more about how to bring their creation to market.

The competition will culminate with Dare ProtoPlay, a Dundee-based showcase of the finished games and prototypes where a panel of judges will select the more original and innovative titles.

Dare To Be Digital is open to all university and college students in teams of up to eight people. Fifteen teams will be selected to take part in the competition before the summer begins. Applications must be endorsed by a member of the teaching staff at the team’s host university.

The deadline for applications is March 13th. You can find out more about how to apply here.

“Dare to be Digital was set up to give students the best chance of working in the games industry, and has evolved constantly since 2000 in response to the major changes that have transformed the industry,” said Abertay University’s Professor Gregor White.

“This year, in yet a further evolution, Dare will offer each team two weeks of dedicated mentorship from industry experts, and we hope to see even higher quality games on show at Dare ProtoPlay as teams are given the extra time and flexibility to polish their work for members of the public, games companies and investors to enjoy.”
