Studio Wildcard has launched the Ark Dev Kit, a set of development tools that allow users to create mods for its hugely popular Early Access game, Ark: Survival Evolved.

The tools are built as a streamlined version of the Unreal Engine 4 Editor and runs within the free-to-download Epic Games Launcher. It enables users to create new maps, creatures, game modes, items and weapons, and share them with other players.

To mark the launch of these tools, Studio Wildcard has teamed up with Alienware to run a modding contest, with up to $25,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs. You can find out more about the competition here.

Finally, to demonstrate the capabilities of the Ark Dev Kit, Studio Wildcard has launched its own total conversion mod, Survival of the Fittest, which transforms the game into a frantic PvP deathmatch title.
