Australia's Greens party has pledged to inject four million Australian dollars — around £2.5m — into the video games development industry in the country as part of an election campaign.

The money would be used primarily to help start-ups and small independent studios with business costs, and rather than raining money on the industry all at once, the cash will be spread over the course of four years.

The policy builds on the nation's already established Australian Interactive Games Fund, and comes ahead of the Western Australia state election that occurs tomorrow.

The policy, entitled Level Up WA, was picked up by Gamespot, and you can read more about the proposal on the Greens website

"The massive success of mobile gaming, and the emerging technology of VR, present huge opportunities for the industry, and with just a few key measures, we could see a considerable amount of that work undertaken in Western Australia," said Scott Ludlum, Senator for Western Australia and communications spokesperson for the Greens.
