Stoic's Alex Thomas working on procedurally generated 2D stealth game

Banner Saga director seeks programmer for next project

The creative director behind last year’s acclaimed strategy game The Banner Saga is hiring a programmer to work on his newest game.

Stoic Studio’s Alex Thomas broke away from the team working on The Banner Saga 2 to develop a new property, Killers and Thieves. The game is a procedurally generated stealth title that sees players looting random levels as the head of a thieves’ guild.

"I’ve been developing the game in an (as yet) unannounced 2D engine which is made for non-programmers, not unlike Gamemaker but a lot more robust," he wrote on his blog.

"However, there are only so many hours in the day. I’m looking for one part-time programmer to help get things rolling.

"I’ll be handling all the art, animation, writing, sound, music, promotional and business aspects. I need somebody who can focus on integration, give good feedback and has an interest in design."

Thomas promises flexible hours and the ability to work from anywhere you want. The successful applicant will be credited as lead programmer when Killers and Thieves ships.

Applicants will need to understand Python/LUA, but doesn’t necessarily need years of experience in the games industry.

"I’d like to find someone enthusiastic about working in games, and that could be a recent graduate or a programmer with no prior game dev experience," Thomas writes. "Killers and Thieves is forgoing a lot of the really tricky stuff – there’s no multiplayer, no porting (for now), no 3D, no console experience and no need to build an engine.

"Bonus points is you have any personal projects, mods or previous work to show, and/or live in the Ausin [Texas] area."

The deadline for applications is Sunday, March 15th. More details on the role can be found at Thomas’ blog.
